Ik Kil the Sacred Blue Cenote is 1.8 miles from Chichen Itza, many of the tours to Chichen Itza include a visit to this cenote. It’s beauty hints at the importance of cenotes to the Mayans, not only were they the life blood sustaining great cities but were also used for religious ceromonies.

What people should know is that the Chichenitza ruins are incredibly HOT after walking for hours. A visit to a cenote is a great idea for afterward.
I always use a lot of mouthwash after swimming just in case of tropical bacteria.
i am going in august but not going to jump prefer the bottom step in : )
Impresionante lugar, quiero ir!!!!!!!!!
Saludos desde Acapulco, Mexico!!!!!
VIVA MEXICO!!!!!!
i jumped here a week ago, wonderful!!! want to go back
stop blaming it on the cenote lady its your fault for jumping in the water
I jumped in that cenote last week. It’s truely amazing! It’s right next to Chichen Itza.
i jumped on this cenote 3 days ago! it was amazing!

~ BEAUTIFUL ~
Well I got back last month from Cancun. This cenote is definitely worth visiting. It’s exactly like it the video. It’s near Chichen Itza.
I Just returned from my visit to Cancun and ofcourse i had to do the Chichen Itza tour. The 1st word came to my mind upon arriving was “simply breathtaking” indeed, I’ll be visiting Mexico again in the near future in hopes to explore similar Cenote’s and other historic land marks like this one..superb video
Aww this makes me miss Mexico
Going to the cenote was probably the most amazing thing ive ever done. And I went with a big group of people and no one got sick… just try not to swollow the water… lol it was soo pretty in there and I dont get how there can be fish in there! its so neat!
come on you punks you can not blame cenotes for all you weakness and next time you better stay home watchend t.v. and don’t come here anymore this is for real people.
Hey!!! real people how do you liked and enjoyed this beauties down here? No for nothing is been calling the gifts from God.
I can tell you since I swim in cenotes my skin and my body looks better and I feel healthy. And remember cenotes waters is for swim not for drink specially if you are not for real. CAPISSSSSS?
I hope you find it too. It was truly amazing. On another trip, we swam in a privately owned one – very cool and then after that swam in this massive underground cave (there is a vid of it). There is soooo much to see and do there. I love it!!!
I hope to find this place next time. The architecture is as amazing as the cenote.
i went there.
well, I just visited 3 weeks ago..and I am American and I am imune to the food water, ect. in the Balkan area! I did not get sick at all! I brushed my teeth with Sink water, drank sink water at time, ect. We did swim alot…not a problem! Its just probably something to do with imunity…
Thanks for this amazingly detailed video giving so many views of this wonderful place. The bright white fade-outs were a little hard to take and it would have been better with a tripod, but I can identify with all of that.
i was there, but its deffinatly was more than 1.8 km from chichen itza. great place, i want to go again.
Which is the title song of the last part of the video??
Looks like Ik Kil cenote to me its near chichen Itza but there is also another one close by. beautiful footage though.
IVE ALSO BEEN HERE!!!
Of course you are right. However, the timing was spot on – symptoms appeared 2 weeks after Ikil. Also I had been very careful about where I ate and only drinking bottled water etc. From subsequent reading I get the impression that swimming in fresh water anywhere in central America is not really a good idea. Glad you stayed healthy. Perhaps, as a European, I just lacked the necessary resistance to American bugs.
Sure that’s possible – but since you can’t say for sure where you got it, people shouldn’t assume that you will get sick at Ik Kil.
I swam there for at least an hour and drank more of the water than I wanted to.
You could have gotten Giardia from anywhere there, and its possible you got it from drinking some other contaminated water (possibly from a drinking glass, or perhaps fruit that was washed in infected water, or thousands of possible other vectors
After swimming here I came down with Giardia Lamblia. This cleared up after 2 treatments with Tinidazole. I did not get better and was diagnosed with Dientamoeba Fragilis – finally eradicated using Metronidazole and Paromomycin. Mean time I still have joint pains due to reactive arthritis. I cannot be sure that I caught these parasitic protazoa at Ikil, but it does seem extremely likely given that they are typically water borne infections. Both result from fecal contamination.
